3 Cool Karate Kid Connections to the Cobra Kai Netflix Series

If you grew up watching cheesy 80's martial arts movies like me then you are no stranger to enjoying the new Cobra Kai series. To be honest Cobra Kai is pretty terrible but it's gotten better. Don't fight me on this. They definitely had a very low budget and the martial arts performance is sub par.

However, I can't stop watching it even when it is borderline cringe.

The way they wrote the show makes it so campy, and it's definitely a cult classic already. Tori, played by Peyton List is actually a very talented actress and you can tell she enlisted in real martial arts classes between season 1 and 4. Her flexibility and coordination have literally transformed alongside the character!

It's really awesome to watch the heroes and villains reunite in the Cobra Kai series, and William "Billy" Zabka's performance and display of his Johnny Lawrence character stays true to the original and evokes an emotional connection from the audience. Just like when he was a kid in the original Karate Kid movie, you can't help but love the guy even if you hate him sometimes.

3. "Weeks" Line used as Homage

Original:

Daniel: "Wait, How Over?"

Ali: "Weeks."

Daniel: "Weeks? One Week, Five Weeks? How many Weeks is Weeks?"

New:

Hawk: "Weeks? One Week, Five Weeks? How many Weeks is Weeks?"

2. Crane Kick Homage

Jon Hurwitz was able to source old footage for episode 1 of the Cobra Kai Series that showed the famous Crane Kick from Several Angles.

The crane kick is used several times throughout the series, and in Season 4 Johnny readies to try it out on Daniel who dismisses it as a joke and walks away.

1. Mini Golf Scene

The Golf N' Stuff date with Miguel and Samantha is almost a complete replication of the original date with Daniel and Ali in the 1984 Karate Kid movie.
